Ταυτόχρονα με την έγκριση απόκτησης των F-35 για τη Πολεμική Αεροπορία (ΠΑ), το Αμερικανικό Κογκρέσο ενέκρινε και το τουρκικό πρόγραμμα πρόσκτησης νέων μαχητικών F-16 Viper (40 στον αριθμό) και παράλληλα της προμήθειας επιπλέον 80 συλλογών εκσυγχρονισμού μέρους των υφιστάμενων μαχητικών F-16 της Τουρκικής Αεροπορίας στο επίπεδο Viper.

Το εντυπωσιακό και άκρως ενδιαφέρον στοιχείο είναι ο μεγάλος όγκος όπλων που αναμένεται να πάρει η Τουρκική Αεροπορία προκειμένου να εξοπλίσει τα συνολικά 120 F-16 Viper. Το δυνητικό κόστος συνολικά του τουρκικού προγράμματος ανέρχεται σε 23 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια. Είχε προηγηθεί το πράσινο φως της Άγκυρας για την είσοδο της Σουηδίας στο ΝΑΤΟ.

Σημειώνεται ότι το τουρκικό απόθεμα όπλων που δύναται να αποκτηθεί από τη Τουρκική Αεροπορία περιλαμβάνει σύγχρονα ατρακτίδια AN/AAQ-33 Sniper Advanced (16 στον αριθμό) ενώ το συνολικό πακέτο όπλων διαμορφώνεται ως εξής:

  • 952 πύραυλοι AMRAAM AIM-120C-8
  • 401 κατευθυνόμενα βλήματα AIM-9X Block II Sidewinder
  • 96 πύραυλοι αντί- ραντάρ AGM-88B
  • 96 πύραυλοι νέας γενιάς αντί-ραντάρ AGM-88E AARGM
  • 864 βόμβες GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bombs
  • 850 συλλογές Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM)

The Republic of Türkiye has requested to buy 40 new F-16 aircraft and to modernize 79 existing F-16 aircraft to V-Configuration. Υπενθυμίζεται, πως κατά πάγια τουρκική τακτική ο αριθμός των όπλων που ζητείται από τις ΗΠΑ είναι υψηλός, πλην όμως ο τελικός αριθμός ενδεχομένως να είναι μικρότερος. Σε κάθε περίπτωση τονίζουμε πως πρόκειται για ένα μεγάλο απόθεμα όπλων.
